In the late 1950s at the state hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan Dr. Alan stone begins to work with two paranoid schizophrenics. Each of them thinks he's Jesus, and soon the doctor discovers a third patient with the same delusion. Challenging the cruel methods of treatment, characteristic of the era, stone decides to combine all three and help in new ways to cope with the disease.
