Ireland of the early 20th century, the country occupied by British troops, who are constantly at war with the local population does not wish to tolerate foreign troops from home. As any anti-guerrilla war this is characterized by unprecedented levels of violence against the civilian population: search in any time of the day, beating everyone who will speak against the authorities, torture of detainees, everything. it sets against England, even those who never thought about join the fighters for the independence of Ireland.

The search for terrorists in one village ends English to the death of a young boy slaughtered all of wine, which was that it is not able to clearly pronounce his name. Local residents decide to organize self-defense units to fight with the invaders, making raids on military convoys, killing officers and stealing weapons from the arsenals.

Along with them in the war and is caught by a young doctor who wanted to go to London work in one of the best in world hospitals, helping people. And he eventually become an experienced terrorist, for which shoulders many corpses as the British, so many people — traitors. It was his eyes we observe the whole course of the narrative: from beginning of the struggle for the independence to the victory, which however, for many it was worse than defeat.

At first glance, the painting might seem to be merely anti-British agitation, which is designed to condemn the former Empire for her past transgressions, because in the film is very much time is given to show the crimes committed by British troops. But as becomes clear when watching the finals in front of us the real human tragedy that the audience watches on the entire tape. After all, the main theme of the story is the Irish themselves, through the prism of the endless battles we watching the majority of these people lose their souls.

During the liberation war, they not so much to defeat your enemy, as they turn to him, adopting the habits, methods, and characteristic techniques of the British and in the end, after the expulsion of the Ireland of the hated invaders it turns out that situation is changed. Those changes, which talked meetings, for which killed many people and happened. The former guerrillas, entrenched in power become indistinguishable from the oppressors, and revolution so many lay people went to a standstill.

This film attracted me with the poetic name. Immediately had a great, serene and a bit harsh land of Ireland. But, alas, instead of the beautiful landscapes I saw the blood, the dirt, the violence.

This film perceived by many enthusiastic, but I have this enthusiasm not share. Personally for me "the Wind that shakes the barley" — the movie is boring, long, sleep-inducing (I tried to watch it 4 times, but every effort was over the fact that 15 minutes, I started to fall asleep). Cillian Murphy — boring, completely vague and grey.

Only respect the real rebels —

The film is about the struggle for the independence of Ireland in the early 1920s. Of a more or less well-known films in this topic think more "Michael Collins", but the movie him similar. Here more. "Wind" with one side looks like would be simpler, but at the same time unexpectedly tougher, darker, heavier. Here is an interesting and somewhat contradictory sense of me left. The film touches, but not immediately, but rather somewhere closer to the end.

What rushes in eyes — the British are portrayed very much bastards and sadists. Maybe close to truth — punitive operations and war crimes as a rule go together hand in hand. But still, IMHO, a little stick tipped, turned straight poured out "Gestapo executioners." On my opinion, some problem, even with all my sympathies to the Irish.

But closer to the final film is corrected, and in the first place is human and family drama — fortunately, any civil war is always easy and relaxed breeds drama and suffering. Here and events in Ireland considerably contributed — struggle independence gradually turned into the civil war between the "moderate" patriots and patriots "radical", different characterized the results achieved in the struggle independence — some agreed with that "not all at once", and other uncompromisingly demanded "all or nothing". So was that first together was shot in a common enemy, and then I each friend.

In the film tough enough, and even violent scenes. An indifferent audience is unlikely to remain.

Fans of historical dramas can be recommended for viewing. Well and "Michael Collins" at the same time, there same events are shown slightly different.
