Movies about the horrors of the Holocaust contain a certain practical problem: the names of the victims in this nightmare are lost as casualties were too many. In other words, to make films about all accidents not is possible, but to sum up, there is a risk of belittling the problem. "Song of names" seem like a case in point. The film is built around a cinematic solution to this dilemma, however, this old-fashioned and gloomy historical drama too very strongly mutes the emotional impact of viewing.

In 1951, the year in London, a young Polish Jew and a violin virtuoso of Dovidl disappears before his concert. After 35 years, the best childhood friend of Dovidl on the name of Martin (Tim Roth) witnessed the talent of another young violinist, whose, so to say, musical rituals are very similar to these should Davidl. This inspired Martin to go in to Eastern Europe on the search for an old friend and to get answers on some questions.

"Song of names" tells two stories in parallel. Flashbacks tell of the following: the end of the 1930s, father Martin gave shelter himself a gifted and arrogant Davide to develop its talent, so two boys become neighbors and inseparable pals. In the 80s the same stubborn Martin is looking for Davide realizes the violinist is not want to be found.

Although the "Song of names" and built on the talented acting of Tim Roth and Clive Owen, it seems that not much point in project no. The thing that in the movie nothing seems genuine or believable. All attempts by Martin and Davide to understand each other are often reduced to cliché agreement life in a time of war. Thus, the original idea gets buried under a huge number of characters. Here and war such, religion the importance of music, and other details which influence on the character of Davide. In a sense it is like a information noise that goes on the foreground only when the creators are resolved to dramatically increase the emotional stakes of your drama. This, in turn, leads to the dissonance, especially in the most tragic scenes. In end up  the"Song of names" too much ostentatious seriousness which so it breaks the narrative dramatically fragile and overloaded with symbolism the story.

"Song of names" came out sincere and touching, but this is static and dead movie. The feeling that the creators do not enough concentration in as movies showing the Holocaust are always in unusual watch their often emotionally difficult, "Song" some kind of fairytale too. A complicated story line that stretches in multiple time frames, it becomes a typical victim of the adaptation: very much need to squeeze in a two hour duration that the harm history as such. In this situation it is difficult to become attached to the characters, and the issues raised by the scenario, too deep to appreciate them in the format of feature films: this inconsistency well captured in books, but in the world of cinema such as not worth our time.
