The Lighthouse

Oh, Oh... that is a movie of that.

But first I will say that I completely missed this film Mayak from the nominees on the award "Oscar", so how the film was only nominated on one nomination as "best operator". The film attracted me with only a few parameters (and the idea of the film is just that and attracts attention) — this is the main current actors and actors only two — Willem Dafoe Robert Pattinson, black-and-white picture and a place of action. And the action takes place in the 1890-ies of the near the coast of New England, where a young man (Pattinson) arrives at the coast gets the assistant of the old lame caretaker (William Defoe) of the lighthouse.

But for the beginning I want to note the Director of this tape — Robert Eggers whose the latest work "the Witch" also caused some interest among the audience in especially in the genre of horror, fantasy-horror, which for the last decades of the properly itself, not demonstrated Yes I personally never been a fan of this genre, because to create something extraordinary and show the horror that is the human soul and the human condition, to show how man is gradually losing his mind begins to make those actions which may result in the consequences or the karma, has always been not very simple. And if William Defoe moves from one state to another I say that he was very original in this film, the more he has a great acting experience, Robert Pattinson surprised me personally, I even think he showed his character a little better than Defoe himself, or say that his character demanded a certain transformation and Pattinson managed to show the madness of his character (episode Chaika — special attention). Gradual viscous tension between the characters gave a strong impetus already closer to the end of the film. The actors managed to a minimum of scenery and situation show awful and unbearable. even extreme conditions work on the lighthouse. Mayak accepted praise. Right, it's nice to follow so unusual for the present day visuals, enjoy close-UPS of the leading actors and severe conceptual plan.

This film seems to be a challenge for most formulaic of horror. Large plans, intricate camera work, the opportunity for actors to give meaningful monologues, the lack of narrative. For a philosophical parable, in my opinion, get enough. Have two characters do not a true cause for conflict. Maybe that's destructiveness? Maybe that was assumed to be a Director?

The events take us in the 1890s, at far from the coast of New England island, where a young Ephraim Winslow to work as the assistant lighthouse Keeper. The Director is Robert Eggers, to this, a couple of years ago released debut original horror "Witch" with Anya Taylor-joy. The work clearly gave the Eggers confidence. It has noticed a major movie Studio, and tarucas the support of Universal Pictures, the Director is not feeling creative "shackles", has created a masterpiece, which clearly no one will be able to repeat. Now tell me why so I think.

I'll start with the atmosphere. His mysticism, gloom and dark color palette, the ribbon is reminiscent of the works of Lovecraft. Emotionally, the picture embodies the real human folly and madness. Eggers successfully transferred all the confusion, the hell and stress. Such feelings have soared from beginning to the very end.

Feature "Lighthouse" is that he is fascinating (in a pleasant sense), and simultaneously horror scares. No direct impact on the viewer is absent here, but nobody has cancelled psychological. The picture does not"spoil" any dismemberment or a screamer, but skillfully strikes and chills up to the bones with their revelations about human nature. While "lighthouse" keeps calm and moderate narrative, along with the "easy" showing all the horrors of solitude and of human madness.

But it becomes even more scary when you are immersed in meditation under the denouement of the film and begin to think through the main idea that the author purposely left the "beyond" is displayed. After the viewer is completely aware of the idea of Eggers — it makes in shock and delight.

For the first time in a long time castes consists only of 2 actors — Willem Defoe (Thomas Wake) and Robert Pattinson (Ephraim Winslow), who created an incredibly unique and charismatic Duo. I have not seen such a spirited and emotional game ("Ford vs Ferrari" is not count) that have passed the spirit of the paintings themselves. William and Robert are so accustomed to images that, at times, I completely forgot that the screen actors. Defoe seemed real ex-sailor, and now — a surly lighthouse Keeper. And Pattinson looked like a dejected life assistant, which the warden dumps all sorts of responsibilities. In the final picture of Robert I even managed to scare their game.

At first, the history of the characters is shrouded in great mystery, so as the characters do not very talkative and involved in the dialogue only after a bottle of cheap liquor for dinner. However, an hour later timing the viewer learns almost all the intimate secrets of Ifrima and Thomas one gets a complete view of the lighthouse Keeper and his assistant. I must admit, both are very eccentric personalities that clearly distinguishes the painting of the other her like that.

Follow-up. "The lighthouse" from the type of paintings that capture the beginning let go only after half a day after viewing. This movie must look exclusively to "brain included", otherwise the movie will seem pure nonsense that wouldn't be fair on against the accomplished work of the Director. I can recommend to view this horror-drama ordinary untrained spectator, happy as the film frightening, but in the same time beautiful in its own way. However, the "lighthouse" definitely included in my list of the best movies 2019-th year. And if not the timid, it will this tape leisure.
