The Count of Monte Cristo

In the same way as in the famous classic story, the main character of the film is Edmond Dantes. This simple-minded young man about to marry the beautiful Mercedes, betrays his best friend Fernand. Once imprisoned, Edmond Dantes for thirteen years had to endure the hardships and nurture thoughts of revenge on his offenders. With the help of a man sitting with him in the neighboring cell, Edmond manages to escape from prison. Then he appears in society as rich and powerful noble count of Monte Cristo, which cleverly and ruthlessly cracked down on people, deceived and betrayed him many years ago.

Edmond Dantes, one of the most controversial characters in literature of the XIX century the execution of James Cavizel is for my favorite. For fine refined Monte Cristo Depardieu too thick and clumsy, Mare sickly-sweet, Vavilov rustic, and other certainly not associated with the hero of Dumas.

On Cavizel, perhaps, all the advantages of adaptation (whether the adaptation?) 2002 end. Oh Yes, there are beautiful views, exquisite costumes, opulent interiors; add to this simple but interesting plot, charismatic actor in the lead role, quite remarkable chapters of Gad, voila! — standard, a costume melodrama (made in Hollywood), with all its genre clichés, ready.

Scenario — nightmare. Dumas turned in the coffin, so as of his works are borrowed only the title and the main event outline. Philosophical flesh that the canvas was encased in a thick layer, the sudden cut, powdered silver sequins, hem ugly ending and allowed great diving.

What the Americans do not be read? A rating of 7.60 in IMDb scary.

And here tomato the tractor? Oh, there is one interesting observation: at the time of watching this film, this phrase ancient meaningless joke all climbed from me head. Why? Because between the novel Duma and this, um, excuse me, the language is not dare to say "adaptation" is that a common name (and not ashamed of it borrowed — like, people will go yeah and notice not look is that expected).

From the first minutes it becomes clear to what audience this film is adapted. The fact that the Dantes and Fernand — friends childhood (!), immediately draws a clear line of the novel, from which of these things the brainchild of the film ran far, far away, where even the cows do not graze. Quite naturally come to thought that the writer is not enough that wants This product still raped half of the first volume and, apparently, determined to feel the Gogol burned the second volume completely, which seemed unworthy of the first. Unenlightened aren't even suspect that the film is missing a good 2/3 of the characters: where Maximillian, Calvacanti, Franz, where Ali (though here, of course, with me is debatable: according to the American political transformations, where even "mom" and"dad" can not write in the essay, the emergence of filme dumb nigger just karmically politically incorrect), where the whole family welfare, where Madam Danglars, Debra, Beauchamp and etc. Where the hell is Guide?! Here without anyone, but without the Graph is too difficult to even imagine.

Although the lack of characters are more than compensated for the expense of distortions in the the grace of the screenwriter added. Nothing that Valentina — wife welfare, although recently was his daughter father-Napoleon was not Noirtier (good even had been), Danglars something of a black soul of Dorian gray is the owner of the boat company.

Probably, to someone all the storyline, except Dancetoska, seemed not worthy of attention, so they simply cut off. Well and to read the second volume, apparently, aging is just not enough, therefore, decided to quickly bring under die happy ending. Mercedes without the battle beats a place in the bed of Montecristo, which makes active movements of the eyebrows and strongly produces in itself of Edmond, the heroic albert has a son, Dantes. We witness the happy reunion; Skayuokera nervously Smoking in the hallway.

In the end there through the stump-deck adaptation of the novel with it is not have on a way to redraw the characters, pointless conversations, and phrases thrown in anywhere (perhaps at the whim of the translator). Who ever touched novel — no no way to watch this film in the hope of seeing something worthwhile! There are only two things that can somehow diversify is the spectacle: a waving mantle of Monte Cristo and a profile of Monte Cristo in the night. At this all ends.

4 of 10 (only for more or less plausible count)

Don't watch this, please.

The American film-makers have a very bad habit — taking the idea of any great writing it badly adjustments called "under itself" and produce light explicit a claim to  the"Oscar", although the original remains except the names of the characters. To unfortunately, the novel by Alexander Dumas not was the exception.

I was amazed at how inaccurately transferred to the atmosphere of the novel, its essence and meaning. Kevin Reynolds showed only blind revenge Dantes, ignoring his against this betrayal, its internal changes after escaping from prison; Mr. Reynolds stressed the changed appearance of a sailor and the name change. What same goes for the other characters, less deep, but not less important, it is surprisingly they in Marseille, when all just beginning, already familiar with each friend; some characters somehow appear in the beginning of the film, although Dumas its readers with them introduces only in the second half of the novel.

And what a finale! He distorts the true meaning of the book and absolutely misrepresented, not mention that the revenge of the count of Monte Cristo carried out in any other way and neither was informed of its intentions.

But what most striking is the ensemble cast — the absolute discrepancy of age and appearance of actors characters in the book. Well here's how could take on the role of the beautiful Mercedes this ugly actress? Why is Noirtier absolutely not be external and internally, in the way described by Alexander Dumas? And where are such important characters as kadruss, Guide and Franz D Epinay?

This film in General is a jumble: all each other familiar, many characters in the film do not correspond to its position as in a social sense, so and geographic, literary characters, well and that in the book the action takes place with the nineteenth century — only an empty phrase, the Mr Reynolds middle ages and only tear out the book dates from trying to show how "honest" he spent on picture analyzed the novel. You know, I about movies, and especially for the film adaptations of books are very condescending, but hell, as a shame when such an amazing, magical work turn into such a disgusting, excessively pretentious movies.
