The Count of Monte Cristo

In the same way as in the famous classic story, the main character of the film is Edmond Dantes. This simple-minded young man about to marry the beautiful Mercedes, betrays his best friend Fernand. Once imprisoned, Edmond Dantes for thirteen years had to endure the hardships and nurture thoughts of revenge on his offenders. With the help of a man sitting with him in the neighboring cell, Edmond manages to escape from prison. Then he appears in society as rich and powerful noble count of Monte Cristo, which cleverly and ruthlessly cracked down on people, deceived and betrayed him many years ago.

Edmond Dantes, one of the most controversial characters in literature of the XIX century the execution of James Cavizel is for my favorite. For fine refined Monte Cristo Depardieu too thick and clumsy, Mare sickly-sweet, Vavilov rustic, and other certainly not associated with the hero of Dumas.

On Cavizel, perhaps, all the advantages of adaptation (whether the adaptation?) 2002 end. Oh Yes, there are beautiful views, exquisite costumes, opulent interiors; add to this simple but interesting plot, charismatic actor in the lead role, quite remarkable chapters of Gad, voila! — standard, a costume melodrama (made in Hollywood), with all its genre clichés, ready.

Scenario — nightmare. Dumas turned in the coffin, so as of his works are borrowed only the title and the main event outline. Philosophical flesh that the canvas was encased in a thick layer, the sudden cut, powdered silver sequins, hem ugly ending and allowed great diving.

And here tomato the tractor? Oh, there is one interesting observation: at the time of watching this film, this phrase ancient meaningless joke all climbed from me head. Why? The American film-makers have a very bad habit — taking the idea of any great writing it badly adjustments called "under itself" and produce light explicit a claim to  the"Oscar", although the original remains except the names of the characters. To unfortunately, the novel by Alexander Dumas not was the exception.

I was amazed at how inaccurately transferred to the atmosphere of the novel, its essence and meaning. Kevin Reynolds showed only blind revenge Dantes, ignoring his against this betrayal, its internal changes after escaping from prison; Mr. Reynolds stressed the changed appearance of a sailor and the name change. What same goes for the other characters, less deep, but not less important, it is surprisingly they in Marseille, when all just beginning, already familiar with each friend; some characters somehow appear in the beginning of the film, although Dumas its readers with them introduces only in the second half of the novel.

And what a finale! He distorts the true meaning of the book and absolutely misrepresented, not mention that the revenge of the count of Monte Cristo carried out in any other way and neither was informed of its intentions.

But what most striking is the ensemble cast — the absolute discrepancy of age and appearance of actors characters in the book. Well here's how could take on the role of the beautiful Mercedes this ugly actress? Why is Noirtier absolutely not be external and internally, in the way described by Alexander Dumas? And where are such important characters as kadruss, Guide and Franz D Epinay?
