"City of lost children" — this is a movie that could become a recent "the Imaginarium of doctor Parnassus" not much like Terry Gilliam computer graphics and guest stars.

Terrible, previously, aged from lack of sleep scientist KranK kidnaps young children to pick up their dreams, still only sees the nightmares, because for children it myself — nightmare. In this in the city comes to a bully-circus — he's looking for a missing brother, and helping him. the little girl MITT, with they during business a long, intimate conversation about different.

Full movie — this is a fabulous visual feast (which is only a talking brain with wires and tubes, placed inside the aquarium). It implements a complex, multi-layered plot, which with equal success can seem like the ravings of a lunatic, so and a brilliant metaphor. The question here is more than answers, but what music the film written by Angelo Badalamenti — the composer, David Lynch, — all makes  place.

Once the French Directors Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet have worked together. Together they have created "Specialties", and then the exquisite surreal fairy tale "City of Lost children". It's really a small work of art, to the viewing of which should be treated with care, go to the picture desired mood, so as not to startle the authors, so as not to spoil the the pleasure they carefully to us made.

So, rainy evening, carefree state of sadness. Will not have to go, you can bundle up in a warm blanket and holding both hands over a Cup of hot chocolate, sink into another world, go to journey the city, quite similar that City of lost children. In it there are people with mechanical eyes, giants, homeless children, hunted robbery, Siamese twins. And on a tiny island lives a crazy person, which is not able to sleep, it is surrounded by dwarves, all for one person, led by a dwarf, and a talking brain in an aquarium, who suffers from migraines.

In this film delights with everything from the story ending with the smallest interior detail. Not all randomly, each frame is weighted, each character is unique and designed to detail.

Story

This is not corny tale. What about the one beginning with dozens of Santa Claus, filling the room with a little boy and leading the very in horror. Unreal characters the minimum fit in real situation which has to act to save his own life and the lives of those who is dear to them. Not here is such that in the most difficult moment suddenly appear the white magician and save the day. There did not will magic, all due to unrealistic with a scientific point of view. And the same time, the story is incredibly fantastic, childish, and pathetic.

The athlete name One (or van literally) kidnapped younger brother and it with a new friend of Miette, girl, suspiciously similar to the amélie (just remember who one of Directors), goes on his search for a mysterious island. They will face hardly not all around, is frankly sad, heavy and moving moments. Monologue van about how he found his younger brother in a dumpster. The scene when he same hits of Miette and on her cheek rolls a tear. The moment of Miette becomes grandma. All that shot not childishly stylish and beautiful.

Actors

Strongman with the fair plays Ron Perlman. The person with similar appearance whole life has to play all sorts of giants, mutants, Hellboi and other vermin. The image of the van one of the best in his filmography and perhaps the most touching and humane. It relations with Miette touches. His way of speaking makes me smile, but no no way laugh him. The film is generally very good and clean.

The very little girl in the red dress was played by Judith Vittet to unfortunately there is no longer had seen, but as a child, she was really good, but is played as a grown-up. It is a serious face, her words about that "I am not so too small", is really touching. As it is terrible that children had to grow up.

The hallmark of Jean-Pierre Jeunet can be called Dominique Pinon, the impression that it appears each film. Here Pignon will not one, it would be five if I not to lose account. As always adds an in the film is a dose of healthy humor and ease.

KranK is really disgusting and wasn't in appearance. What a big spoiled child, to whom he actually is. Which Daniel Emilfork remember me for a long time. As remember the midget of Mirell moss, which I saw later in"the Girl on the bridge" and many other characters of this amazing story.

Music

The music for the film was written by Angelo Badalamenti. For me personally, that says it all. Fell in love with this composer still with "twin peaks". It tunes perfectly fit in the atmosphere of the film, fleshed it out and gave the charm.

Decorations

I read somewhere that those same scenery Wife then used in its part of "Them." How Americans don't know watching European films, and because I have not noticed...And the scenery and really beautiful. Subject world of the film itself in itself full of original findings. What are the huge mines, which repel the characters, when you swim on the island.

So, for the way, the costume designer of the picture was himself Jean Paul Gaultier.

The story is not Hollywood. Very original, not similar that, stripped of templates, devoid of preaching and moralizing. It is a single product, there is not will be "the City of lost children 2". "City of lost children" is a unique and unique.

Incredibly atmospheric film that is difficult to bring under the canons and genres.

This is not fiction, mystery theatre of the absurd... although it is possible to see all these symptoms are on the course of the film. Perhaps it here is a strange fantasy, deeply and strongly (and very stylish) crafted world, living not according to our rules. But because world in which runs the film, was not created anyhow not "making money quick" — their rules there is an attempt to understand them else puts deeper the atmosphere of the film.

The dialogues, the plot, the characters, the camerawork, sets and all of the film is clearly subordinated to one goal, no one nothing is trying to "pull a blanket on itself". Watching the film I understand that — Yes, all was indeed, because different couldn't be.

Even subtle illogic of the plot is not have the slightest rejection, because "THERE" is exactly what is.

I suspect that it is such a clear, logical elaboration of the plot and his created the world and made it possible in 1997 the creation of the eponymous computer game in the genre quest for the motives of this film. The game, incidentally, also became the time of revelation, not a pathetic imitation of the someone else's creativity and a true classic of the genre.

In General, to talk about this movie is a lot and a long time, but I'd add only one thing — is one of those few films, reviewing which 5-6-7 (underline) again, find new and new advantages and practically find faults.

My opinion — solid
