Midnight Special

Full movie — solid, impenetrable fog unjustified expectations, the long road to anywhere, all of a sudden break failure in the lines line in the sand, reaching the final turn of the protracted nearly two hour chase, in which, taking the legs, cheerless company, where openly, and where is firing, away from their pursuers, instead of protecting kid's bag — unique, suffering from bouts of destructive activity, depriving it of rest last effort towards purpose of digits numbers that remain a mystery to overtaking them the chase of authorities and enemies.

Director dark, ignoring the details of how the parents trusted the son of a sectarian community, and then, when I found out its special there position, undertook to take of that yourself, eliminating the burden of involuntary debt, taking on its the trail of the offended sectarians and government sekretikov, found out about the wondrous deeds of the boy, erected by enterprising men in their religion.

Becoming a goal, the omnipotent child leaves a trail of mysteries and mysterious phenomena, extracting from the broadcast radio waves and making the orbits of the satellites, forcing them to pore over tables school-a diligent NSA agent (Adam Driver), while keeping the coordinates in one spot while the bandits clumsily operate on brute force, a race with the military hunting for young Messiah, believing that mind force to get around.

Where to run and what will — common issues for this kind of pictures, where there is a mysterious character, the highway, but has not been declared a destination in them — the sense of movement and the purpose of the story, but in this case, a special man and a special world — no more than the conventions of conventional care — is the end start to explain to myself the entire this mess with the cosmos, other worlds and good intentions of one of the sides.

Despite the hopeless disappointment with the story, not leaves the desire to find in it any concrete meaning, looking for the symbolic signs and binders signs, in try to build in a line path not fugitives and pursuers, and, separating from them — the fate of one boy only, if it lines converge and from it diverge the rays determining the direction of thought that evaluates the child's condition with the standpoint of simple biology, when the end of earthly existence is clothed in the form of magical phenomenon, and all running with police villains — the show, hosted for us the death of a child, making it easy to move it as say, the best these worlds. But this interpretation is — just a desperate attempt to find a black cat in the gaping darkness of the logical void.

Boy Elton has unusual abilities: he is the radio catches and the voice, the utters any prophecy; that produces beams of eyes that make people feel the presence of another, higher world, and believe in all immediately. Naturally, for the "son of God" hunt religious fanatics and then they team up with the FBI. On the children stand his parents, Roy and Hannah, and a friend of his father, Lucas: they're taking it in a certain point x, the coordinates of which the boy received in one of your dreams. What happens when they get there - is unclear, but Elona and very much need to be there...

The film starts intriguingly. We don't tell immediately that is this boy is this armed men, with whom he going somewhere where he goes why is wanted by the police. We will know the truth gradually, first with Paul Sawyer, the FBI agent who began investigating the case about the disclosure of sensitive government data, and suddenly themselves faced with the supernatural, then — from the lips of the boy's parents. The atmosphere is great: almost all of the first half of the film takes place in the dark, at night, under the light of the electric signage of convenience stores under the accompaniment to the night's radio and TV shows. When the boy assumes control of their abilities, the day comes, and the screen is bathed in natural light. It also very beautiful nature: the night dark, where each ready to root you tripped, then the sun is rising above the forest, the glossy surface of the swamp.

So why this review still gray, and not green, m? It's simple: after a dreary, slow and atmospheric beginning of the film is not hurry to pick up the pace. Not hurry. It seems there are shooting, falling weather balloons, but no action, no conflict is not felt. Like we try to cheat, by showing how religious fanatics are chasing the characters, or as them on the heels goes, the FSB, or as the boy's nose bleed after the next attack, superpowers... I Try. But why not is screwed. Heroes just do not sorry. They impress people, which is terminally ill relative, and already so tired of waiting for his death, so devastated that they have not strong enough for strong emotions. Himself "terminally ill" — Elton — is also so calm and laid-back, all knowing in advance that for both worried. Religious fanatics and most of the FBI in principle went totally grey and characterless.

And in the end, the most expressive character is Gender Zavier, and, according to all, the merit here is not a writer, but of an actor: Adam Driver considers it his duty to do his best in any role, and the Director said he largely "created" the character of the hero. Points in half face, crooked suit jacket, Packed full backpack hanging on one shoulder, a shy and awkward demeanor — Zavier is more like a nerd-school student than an FBI agent. Despite a sharp mind, in his heart he still a child, and clash unknown causes his first fear and then — curiosity delight. To give up a little, and participate in the story he takes the biggest.

The result is a vague and leisurely mystical (sci-Fi it is difficult to call) road movie with vague morality. "Love your children, no matter how strange powers they possessed"? So that you? But even such morality could be apply quick.

Once you can see it, but not anymore.

Two men (Michael Shannon and Joel Edgerton) ride along with a kind of boy (Jaden of Liberal) at the USA. In a news show that one of those men — alleged kidnapper of the child, but the Alton exceptionally quiet and reading comics with wearing swimming goggles, while the adults are trying to leave the interstate. At first, we practically explain the backstory of these characters, but gradually, we know who they may well speculate why these two taken away by Alton and some religious sect and US intelligence agencies want to find.

A new film by Jeff Nichols belongs to a pretty rare in our time, the genre of social science fiction. He was popular in the UK after the Second world war not least because the books of John Widman "day of the Triffids" and"the little cuckoos of Midwich". In last movie similar direction we can see Edgar Wright "Armagedda", but he "Special midnight edition" — still, a very different the mood of the picture.

Nichols remained true to themselves not only that again worked together with Michael Shannon. Although this is his first experience on the field of movies from the supernatural elements, it uses them extremely competent and at least, so what, how and  the"Shelter" with"Mud", here, everything is in the first place rests on the characters.

Yes, the boy has unique abilities, and quite ingeniously invented, but in a considerable part of the tape can be described as a road movie, where the boy adults go to a specific purpose, while all around the way. Besides appearing later heroine Kirsten dunst, which, as any good mother, helps her son in his main desire.

Besides travelers we helps to understand the history of the character Adam Driver — a government agent Paul, asking members of the sect on Alton: how do they know he they did. Later, he realizes where the boy being taken, and in the end will play in the history of a key role. It presence of the scenes of the interrogations of members of the sect help you to better understand what the scene occurs. Himself the film is not to not hurry to explain, it just extremely competent doses provide you the information. And combined with not the most dynamic pace of the narrative and a minimum of background it turns out that you can simply get lost in what is happening. Of course, a competent camera work of Adam stone and in a good sense the throbbing music David Wingo set up on the desired way, but still this is not enough to fully grasp the film. And ambiguous ending only reinforces the feeling that you misunderstood about what were a movie.

Even the name — "Special midnight edition" — it seems some kind of code that you like and cracked to the middle, but do not cease to hope you'll get a more coherent explanation than you invented yourself. But it not appear.

The less — this is a very well told untypical story, which gives the drama a boy with such a scale that the film even has a frame covering the entire state of Florida of the space. Such as deserves some attention, at least for good actors and competent Directors.

Not too hasty and unusual film, first hold on the talent of its performers. In terms of history it can understand, but it is difficult to penetrate.
