"Little Joe" — a film by Jessica Hausner, part at Cannes film festival this year. What he is offering us.

The first thing that catches eyes — great camera work. Everyone, even the most common frame, I confess, I while watching I wanted to put in a frame. Examples? The scene in the greenhouse, where Alice and Chris are back to a friend; a scene of conversation in the dining room; the scene where Joe (Alice's son) first pours Baby Joe (plant); hide and seek in the greenhouse. Yes to infinity you can list specific scenes. Operator Martin Gslapt carried out a great job. View "Baby Joe" — joy eyes.

What is the idea of the film? In fact, Jessica Hausner says (figuratively, of course, Arthouse still) on the theme of the fears of modern man. How about such global issues like biotechnology, GMOs, the scientific method (their impact on the environment), so and uniquely human issues such as fear of not deal with a child, depression, loneliness, difficulties of communication, of finding your happiness. Metaphors, of course, utterly primitive, but this plus: "Little Joe" don't mind-blowing, and allows you to quietly enjoy the view. Speaking of ecstasy.

Attracts, in addition to the visual, malleable, but charming atmosphere. Sometimes a relaxed and  'lamp', sometimes intensely psychedelic. For the latter quality, by the way, written by a good soundtrack, which is a hellish mixture of noise, psychedelic and (suddenly) Eastern folk. Sterile decorations, minimalism, choreography — all creates a hypnotic effect.

Actors. Emily Beecham received in Cannes "best actress" at my opinion, deservedly so, her game is gorgeous, even dwell not want, better to see yourself. Ben whishaw looks in General harmoniously, but his smile, as I think cost is sometimes removed, so how to look begins a little silly. Well pleased with playing children: Keith Connor and Jesse may Alonso.

Of course, nothing great  the"Little Joe" no. It just a very strong author's cinema. I recommend a visit to all lovers of the genre, and fans of Emily Beecham — mandatory.

"I was born to make you happy"

remember netlenka the late 90s from Britney Spears. And comment to regret no Oh my that before try to make someone happy, ask this person — and does it? We all quietly steal other people's ideas, conclusions. Jessica Hausner does the same — theft, here is only speak in her open this is dumb, and the whole movie she does only one thing — trying to cover their tracks.

Modern art-house is a good workout for the memory. It's been as I got off with a cinematic of the needle. Look for six films in the day Oh, such a gluttony for me today a luxury. The beauty of cinema what if you his true love, he does not go unnoticed. Through years of extraneous thoughts and unforeseen circumstances, once seen footage and founded in these ideas will make it to present. And it will be as inspiration. If indicate the advantages of watching "Baby Joe", then it — connection to cinematographic heritage in my eyes are converted to a positive reaction.

Yes, the "Invasion of the body Snatchers" don Siegel, — I found what started Jessica Hausner and so tried sovremenniy, even more — to disguise. Which begs the question — why? The attempt to escape of the genre will make your movie smarter? On the contrary. The film has lost integrity, the main character, the problem, which is usually discussed after the completion of the painting. And Hausner somewhere in a hurry. On the middle of the film, shifting the emphasis on minor characters, it rushes to debate about that haven't concluded telling.

I would be interested to know the story of Alice (Emily Beecham), a researcher that develops a new project for global schastlivyiy people and her son Joe included in stage adolescent destroya, more details. But drama here and does not smell. To register the characters for a modern auteur cinema it boring, you might say, archaic. Better to add more modern paranoia, and viewers all up and lay shelves. Jessica Hausner distracted by the character Carrie Fox and her dog, and after sterile (how sad!) Ben Whishaw. Their motives are characters, shake the screen like thunder from a clear sky — their inappropriate behavior is not fueled by any preconditions. But here is the motive of the heroine is placed in one, no, in two sentences, dictated by the psychoanalyst Alice — workaholic; afraid to admit that connection to her son more burden than motivates new achievements. Psychedelic in the form of t-shirts decorated in the technique of tai-give ambient bells, borrowed from the guru of modern sounds, Four tet not able to puzzle or introduce a state of anxiety. Zing! — on the contrary, because of weak story, she tires introduces a zone of light stupefaction. What would this film went to use — psychological shake-up in the form of a gorgeous couple shot kills. And wasn't in my perverted taste. The Director herself all the time revolves around violence. Sterile characters are so carefully trying to hide their secret desires, that when the moment comes to open — do say that want as a result, becomes happy, their sterility becomes sometimes frightening, even aggressive.

From the Director would be much more honest to leave the desire to grasp the immensity, the whole range of contemporary issues, and more focus on the beautiful Emily Beecham. What she's a diamond of this picture, Jessica Hausner realizes too late — the finale of "Little Joe" came out naive and empty. Lack of time, chaos in a head — the woman could be a hundred excuses, but none them, the cinema does not forgive. I hope Jessica Hausner is understand ever to shoot a masterpiece.

This film is similar to experiment with vitro. The audience greeted symmetric alienated space, formal rigor of the movement and the avarice of speech. The idea of a picture and technical execution the height, but a blank gap between the viewer and the main character, the inability to truly empathize, make viewing difficult.

If the horror, the existential. In lab-greenhouse output flower can make a person happy. The flower needs constant care, temperature maintenance and even communication, otherwise it will die. Interesting detail in that to reproduce naturally through pollination, he can not, therefore, flower would need to "comprehend" a way of preserving their species. Of course, the canons of the genre, all in this experiment should not go so. And a flower can be, do bring happiness to the owner, but that time will change it. And as it — this is a key question of the film.

Why not enough film, if the idea is good, visually everything is fine, and actors on level? To unfortunately, the creators are grasping at once for a variety of topics or not reach of resumetarget or a logical conclusion. Here you thought about how can affect the person antidepressants, and problems of interpersonal relationships, parenting and of growing up. The film also speaks about the responsibility of scientists for their inventions, about the ethics of intervention in personality true to the background of the already conducted in our time, attempts to edit the human genome. So what happens if you breathe in the aroma of this unusual flower? He will make happy, allowing you to be a real me, or will make you strange, broken humanoid?

Alas, all internal-throwing heroine pronounces direct text her therapist that horrible nasopalatine and exactly the use is not going. The film is bogged down in a spatial emptiness, and interpretations too much. But not the case when the variety of insights creates depth and on the contrary, the meaning is sprayed here. The characters act more as a function, the picture is not able to summon a sufficient emotional response. To qualify as the horror of "Little Joe" is also difficult, because the scare here is that the inappropriate atonal music similar to support for Japanese theatre and the cutting the ear noises.

The entire film is not could get rid of the thought that you look kind of a remake of a little-known French film "Paradise for all" 1982. There suffer from depression, offered to undergo the procedure, which would make them absolutely happy, without a pain side effects. Technically, this old film is quite poor, but is made much livelier with some painful anguish. Absolute happiness, as shows us movie can cripple not less than the deepest depression. Even the endings at both of these films were similar, but the effect is quite different. "Little Joe", to the cold was just beautiful, not hurting feelings.
