I Am Not a Serial Killer

"I do not a serial killer"! The name of the movie and response asks 15-year-old John Wayne, a psychotherapist. John — a typical outsider in grade school: virtually no friends he does not seek them to start, most of the free time he holds the morgue, helping the mother-to the pathologist. Not going into details regarding the main prankster of the entire celebration, but the authors of the tape managed to deploy a good story keeps the intrigue almost all screen time.

Unexpectedly high-quality, interesting and atmospheric film, even gives old-school features in especially in its scenery, visuals, and of course, organ soundtrack in the film.

In 2010, the years in numerous horror and Thriller became evident a clear trend — style the good old eighties. It can be direct remakes of adaptation new adaptations of king ("It", "Carrie"), attempts to revive the old classics (the prequel to "Something", the TV series "ash vs evil dead") and, finally, postmodern Hommage (TV series "Mysterious events"). On this background, the movie "I not a serial killer" is both typical and a bit original.

Many of the authors of the new horror try to reproduce the atmosphere of old quotes and references, transferring actions in the same the eighties, the use of "melodies and rhythms" of old music. It looks like this often very soundly and even fresh (as in same "Mysterious events"). But verified often an obvious narrative, though, and warms the soul of fans, not scary — copying the classics, the authors inevitably copy and familiar the story features the classics. In the result is something very recognizable, but while in bright colored wrapper of the present.

"I do not a serial killer" produces the opposite impression. Here is a "wrapper" is very old and simple, though it took an abandoned warehouse shelf — must have contributed to this small budget picture. If you don't know the film was released in 2016, you'd think watch a real movie of the era VHS. Quite pale and fuzzy mid-2010 years picture, minimalist soundtrack, unhurried narration — all even something unusual to see in the era of the "video clip" movie. The contents, however, are not quite standard. Horror because often assumes that we have an obvious way to fear and to worry about the main character, who is faced with evil. But the protagonist himself as it show first scenes, causing issues: a is the good side? Teenage sociopath, fascinated by the subject of serial killers and he inclined to similar to impulses, is faced with unknown maniac. The obsession with the topic makes him the hunt for a maniac that will lead to very unexpected discoveries. The filmmakers do not trying to scare us forwards because of the angle of killers with a knife, and of the cries of the victims we do not hear. Scary because don't know — what is going on? This approach struck me as much more interesting than trying new bright colors to describe the obvious confrontation between the "good" characters with  the"evil" monsters.

Summary: a simple execution low-budget, but interesting old-school horror story 2016.
