13-year-old chubby bully Ricky (the irresistible Julian Dennison), unable to get along with any in one family, is sent, through the efforts of social services in the countryside, where is home to the only pair of ready to take. It quickly finds common language with the woman begins to call aunt Bella (Rima Te Wiata), but held on distance its the most part silent and gruff husband Heck (Sam Neill, perfectly depicting the reclusive old man). But the sudden death of Bella puts both characters in a dead end. Heck can't find a place for himself, and Ricky, concerned that social services wants to take him away from new relatives to mimic his own death, escapes to the forest. Heck goes to the thicket of the Bush on his quest, and social worker, Paul (Rachel house) and her assistant Andy (Oscar kightly) start over them in pursuit in parallel announced a nationwide hunt for the fugitives, believing that heck, after the death of his wife flew off coils kidnapped the boy.

The secret of Waititi began to form their own style, shooting short films, which over the time has undergone a small number of obvious deformation. It the first work ("eagle vs shark", "Boy") was imperfect, but they certainly had a strong and defined characters, had a deep sense of place and was filled with humorous calmly absurdity of life. He recently with his longtime friend Jemaine Clement took "Real vampires" — cheerful good stupid and incredibly funny mocumentary about vampires, living as neighbours room. But in his new work the new Zealand Director works with the material as if it something owed to Wes Anderson, but at the same time, not losing its own organic matter.

"The hunt for savages" — the history that unites three familiar characters — brave toddler age weirdo and drama of growing up, and making them cliché. Charming and funny, this drama under a kind of Comedy about the unloved boy nobody wanted to myself, but who needs a true friend. Comedy in  the"Savages" quieter than in previous films, Waititi here decided to enhance the realism of the story. A large part of the humor here comes from the young talents Julian Dennison, which perfectly understands that wants use it to show the Director and is an expressive Ambassador at human nature movie. Ricky, from the one hand, the young man, woven of strands of hip-hop culture and on the other, the boy creates (and reciting) haiku in the therapeutic learning, but the Director is careful when it comes to the history of the character's life, which he dissipates at all the parts of the movie. Sam Neal tries not to yield to my colleague, but because of the age and character is more like empathic Dr. Grant on retirement. The tragedy for both characters in the movie, but it defines them as could be the paintings of American colleagues.

Waititi loves to play with different types of Comedy, but he obviously has feelings for a modest exaggeration, placing among the slapstick jokes, songs, cartoons, lovingly deployed insults or a flurry of images. All the characters are funny and original, but because they make you to laugh in different ways. Cartoon Sex and Andy is more like real people than the images, but their image through the burlesque of bureaucratic incompetence and obvious bloated fanatical crusade against Ricky and uncle Hyuk looks breathtakingly funny.

The expansive expression of the Director people in "the Hunt for savages" allows its characters to suffer losses and difficulties, not making them to be completely limited in their sufferings as too often like to portray marginalized people in fiction. They and romantic pragmatic, eccentric and perfectly normal. But characters reasonable disadvantages, such as and this movie, but Waititi easily avoids the obvious pitfalls in narrative way, thanks to his wit. He still is looking for his way, but he has a Director who is able to show in the frame is invincible child staying in order to wave to his pursuers, moving us thus is one of the perfect cinematic moment.

After watching probably a cult NZ Comedy "What we do in the shadows" very interested in the work of the Secret of Waititi. For unknown reasons, the viewing of other movies I was always postponed in a long box. But a sudden cold and pass uni was the most of the time, which was perfect for travelers movies "the Boy" and"the Hunt for the savages". About  Boy it is possible to speak long, but it has a review on different movie.

"The hunt for the savages" really impressed me, although I somehow do not expected. Beautiful views of New Zealand, an interesting plot, a good balance between drama and Comedy: not know this gave me this is a breath of fresh air, but something definitely gave.

Great acting contributes to how fast you change the relation to almost all of the main characters. But then, of course, in addition to the actors, once again thank Waititi for a thoughtful script.

Despite that the film is a tragicomedy, he seemed not so sad, in compared "Boy."

In General, this Director is very interesting attitude to death his paintings. Often death to come to his characters very suddenly as it would be throwing this fact in the face of the viewer (this can even be seen a certain comic effect), and reflection, reasoning, grief about the dead are already in the ensuing narrative.

Not know if the disadvantage of the fact that sometimes, at the time of viewing, I wondered: "How could this happen," thought that in real life, such a coincidence is very unlikely, but I guess this grotesque originally part of this story, without she would not as exciting and fascinating.

From the Secret of Waititi have a certain style in his paintings, which can be traced in all works. If you are already familiar with his work, and is it you like, "the Hunt for the savages" you will not disappoint. If you are just beginning to feel the art of new Zealand cinema, then this is really a good movie to begin. To you will be able to develop their attitude to such an interesting Director. So that any case, I recommend!

Ricky Baker — the orphan boy who dreams of becoming a gangster and wandering from one foster home to another. Representatives of guardianship brought his house Bella Huck, living in a remote area and ready to shelter the bully. But not had a grief-the gangster to settle in new home, as Bella died. Huck cannot do not want to raise a child in single-handedly, so the authorities are going to send Ricky in an orphanage. The guy is not going down runs in the woods, Huck forced to poison for even the extravagant lady of the care sure Ricky kidnapped. Now a couple looking for whole country.

"The hunt for the savages" — very well made Comedy-drama. I admit that many the plot seems giperplazirovannom and separated from reality I think is one of success factors. The Director of both the lift and the important social issues and the mood of the audience as it was, for example, in"Matilda" (1996), "the Fat cat" or"Kingdom of the full moon". There are no humor below the belt, but there is a grotesque and lively characters, and the young Julian Dennison looked not worse than his famous partner, Sam Neil.

Don't tell about the luxurious landscapes and carefully selected music. And if the first half of the tape it serves only as a background, then the second becomes more vivid, helping to arrange the necessary accents.

So... All like, I recommend to view, but warned that in the film there are scenes of hunting.
