There was a movie similar story: Lost in the snow (The Snow Walker). Canada 2003.

The plot is almost one to one, for the difference in the canadian film hero got though the terminally ill, but still a movable traveler. Which, actually, it and saved, so it was a local resident, and that's the pilot, though, and experienced Arctic pilot, absolutely was not fit to life in the Arctic (one scene, as he takes off with his clothes when he gets in a cloud of gnats, that is).

In this film on the contrary. The main character — a real man, who in the Arctic, lost the girl is rescued, and even though it none requests, constantly assures the poor that all right, she one and he will not leave. He can have it all burns hands, he lose wondering the sight of blood. Real reliable strong man!

Nice on this look!

These are in short supply.

Families in which grow the boys — must watch!

first — author's little lyrical digression. So that Danish Mads Mikkelsen in my personal top actors takes the podium, in a connection than in writing this review on I kind of hard to resist the temptation to indulge in enthusiastic squeaks, squeals, drool... Okay... just kidding. Although regarding the fact that Mads among the acting fraternity, I love the most, not just kidding. He gorgeous point. And now the movie...

"lost in ice" (or simply Arctic, but such domestic localizers localizers...) — a debut of the Director Joe Penna, for he was even nominated Cannes best debut, and I must admit, at the merits. Not each film receives much applause from the spectators in room for the premiere of the film on the Cannes film festival.

In the film there is a decent amount of pictures, or another connected with the theme of human survival in difficult conditions. But no film not previously has revealed that text as in this movie. We(the audience) have seen a lot — and how people hunger extreme conditions ate the corpses of other people, and how they drank urine, and all suffering from various injuries and more... But survival alone in the Arctic wilderness, maintaining their own existence, when you were just the only hope on our own strength (not only and not so much physical as it is psychological, because not to go with mind for such a situation — it is also a feat) and optimism recovery, — we haven't showed you earlier. In this respect the film is its infinite natural, harsh and ruthless honesty, and thus — sincerity and some real humanity sneaks not just to chills, and it to the bone.

Than my opinion is very valuable to the story "Lost in the ice" — it's a complete lack of superfluous "stuff" that sometimes sinning is of good quality paintings. Here there is of flashback, no prehistory as such, we don't tell voice-over "of the previous series" — how, why, when and under what circumstances the main character got in such severe conditions of life as itself itself crashed its plane (in the synopsis of the film written everywhere that he — the helicopter pilot, in that time, as the frame is clearly — plane okay, not the point). We see the hero — pilot H. Overgard (I remember, it name entirely in the film never shown not delivered, only the first letter "X", but we know announcement that call it Huxley) to circumstances "here and now".

The plane is under running Huxley crashed in the middle of the icy Arctic desert, the pilot survived, after some time realized that hope for recovery is not enough, has established some semblance of life around the remains of the aircraft, and also (in order to not to go mad in solitude) is doing everything strictly according to schedule the beeping of the timer on a wristwatch. But the crashed helicopter and seriously wounded the girl, who is without consciousness, changing the plans of the main character and he decided on a risky attempt to get to distant weather stations, to people. Chance to salvation? Of course. But at what cost? And further along the story we expect all time horror of trial through which the protagonist sneaks forward, in spite of absolutely inhuman harsh weather conditions and ruthless elements.

Here it starts the film really "take over the live". Arctic nature — absolutely ruthless and harsh, her nothing to the smallest for her dust — human life. And we observed — to what limits can reach a man when he realizes responsibility not only his own life, but for the life of another person, which is not able to take care of himself. Wounded the passenger of the helicopter speaks for the entire film is only two words, the protagonist does not even know her name. But he understands that he must save her, for what is required to survive myself. Spark of life erupted in flames, where the heroes of the story get each other vitality. And, thank heavens (or rather — the author of the script) that the film is completely absent of any even a hint of some kind of love story (what was hopelessly ruined the movie "the mountain Between us" with Kate Winslet Idris Elba). Pilot Huxley and the wounded girl-Asian (as evidenced by the flags of Asian countries on the body crashed helicopter) each other strangers, even talking on different languages. But how much moral and psychological interaction between the characters in the picture — is with the view into your needles. Life! To survive at any cost, no matter what, to be able to overcome on the way any obstacles, to rescue the helpless man beside you — this is probably the main meaning and personal "human and humane" the message of this film. Speaking of film Arctic not to celebrate one of its main advantages its visual part. How you know, the shooting took place on the territory of Iceland. This, of course, not Arctic, but also extremely harsh climate, the ruthless and uncompromising nature and extremely harsh conditions for life. The film crew, and also a recent guest of the capital — the Mads Mikkelsen — talked a lot about the extremities those when the filmed — sajise, moreside, wind torn by the wind door car and much more. Heavy and exhausting shooting schedule, which certainly influenced and appearance main character in performance Mikkelsen for pictures. In one of interviews Mads said harder physically than he was itself, the more showing his feelings. Psychological discouragement in the eyes of the actor — it the neither is true. And it is also valuable.

And finally, speaking of this movie, not sing praises to address the pearl — an amazing Mads Mikkelsen. Without the actor, the film was totally different or not been to do. To talk about that — how much the actor gets used to the image of the character, how his heroes are on the screen alive and real this — they are different — endlessly. In short, thank you, peerless Mads, for Arctic and actually for that you world cinema!

Summarizing, we can say that "lost in ice" — movie poignant, lively, very sincere in terms of emotions and, of course, leaving behind hope. Etched in the memory of those words Huxley: "All right... you Hear? All... right..." and.... next you will see...

To live...? Yes! A movie about life. Recommend!

PS is addressed to fans of the TV series Hannibal: on one frames Arctic flashes the pilot's license with a picture of a young Mads, then the photo that previously appeared in one series "Hannibal"

Mads Mikkelsen — one of the baddest men on the planet. Imagine this man, first played in Gopnik trilogy "Dealer", then rose to the level of the gods, and literally played Odin in"Valhalla", and followed — almost killed, to wait a minute, James bond, and now this guy understands Kozikowski stories. So! But the most difficult acting challenge fell to share "Lost in the ice" — Mikkelsen had to eat instant food in suhomyatku. Doshirak. In muffins. Brrr!

"Lost in the ice" — in some ways unique movie. Remember the "127 hours" — the man was also in an extreme situation, ten minutes groaned, portrayed the survival and soon recalled the family. Well and sometimes drank urine, Yes. Because not Boyle, aimed to show survival, he it was more important to show the feelings of a man who was all alone.

Funny man Joe foam (seriously, look at how he looks) has set a devilishly difficult task — remove the film, where the main character is a large part of the duration is silent, pacing back and forth, and trying to die, as I The video game Long Dark. I got into such an extreme situation as the main character, but it looks as realistic as possible — around their makeshift shelter hero puts devices for catching fish, without a twinge of conscience takes a jacket with already ice cold corpse. And in one scene, builds a hut of snow. You where is seen at all!

Joe Penna so also dug up the lost rule of cinema: "show don't tell". Its direction is not out some outstanding style, its power in detail. Here is a notorious "environment tells the story". No one will tell you how many days have passed since the moment of meeting the main character from the second actor — please look at dash on the bottle that Mikkelsen leaves every day. Who such Mikkelsen you also no one says. How he got here — well, you would guess. At least in film the two actors (and a funny video bear), but the active character is one. The actress full movie is not getting up and with such a burden Mikkelsen have dragged on the Arctic. As the element scenario this a woman's affair — watching any movie, we believe that the main character will survive. So here we are sure. And survive a simple detail of the plot?

The strangest thing, but the foam causes us to empathize with the heroes. It is something akin to a national empathy in the time of tragedy. Watch the film through the screens takes the humanity right in us know this is a magical feeling.

It's possible that some coming out of the hall, say, "odd, meaningless movie." And it's great too. The whole movie seems to me as a schematic sketch. Two actor, around the void, there's no dialogue, the camera work though good, but repeated. But these the vast emptiness make you think. Maybe it is just a film about survival. And can a film that shows that have no no helper, can only hope. Or it is generally the deconstruction of genres, in which the main hero once in a serious shit, remember all good, that he had.
