The film is about the choice between science and faith, the choice and sacrifice that was born in the days of the distant Alexandria. However it is impossible to judge about the historical facts in this film, most likely much of it is only a fiction of the author, but film — matches the historical data. What is unusual is that the main character is a woman-philosopher Hypatia, who studied astronomy, mathematics, and discovered that the planets rotate in elipsoobraznoj orbits. A strong woman who saw what needed to unsubscribe from their affections or even not having. Was later martyred by Christians, refusing to accept their faith.

Even the XIX century, Leconte de Lille Hypatia depicts a true symbol of the dying of Hellenic culture, the latest incarnation of the "spirit of Plato and body of Aphrodite". About it write Voltaire and Charles Kingsley. Name Hypatia put on map of the moon. The paradox is that the Christian faith in spite of what is covered by a peace-loving commandments, really quite violent religion, iznichtozhat many people (to remember at least Crusades). Yeah and canonize many not the Holy people. But in this film there is no hint of the attitude of the Director to any religion or lack thereof. Shown here is a separate piece of history of Alexandria, but not the author's opinions and it is very good, so because now no one I'll tell you exactly whose wine as was really. And us distant descendants can only flip through the dusty pages of the history of mankind...

Separately want to note the strong image of Davus, played by Max Minghella. More such a strong and thoughtful films in the reproach Three.

The film "Agora" — for the third for the last 2 months painting on religious themes. But, in contrast delicate "the book of Eli" and coarse "Legion", "Agora" shows just another view on the issue. Adds piquancy to the situation that the picture based on historical facts, so that to write off all of the views of the writers we still not can.

In the center of the story is a woman scientist Hypatia, her noble friend Orestes and former slave Davos. In annotations the picture says Hypatia, torn between the love of these two men. But in the film as such love does not exist. It is love her side. They are her loved. And she's... she loved science. This the woman possessed an extraordinary mind, she wanted to know the world. And main the downside was that she was a woman. Hypatia was smarter than many men. For it is appreciated Orestes. For is it was hated around the prefect's men. Well, someone like that second-class people — woman — smarter than men, scientists, for their opinion?!

But I getting ahead of myself. In this picture, Christianity and paganism as the roles were reversed. All we've learned that the barbarism characteristic of the Gentiles, and here Christians — enlightened. Well and here all on the contrary. Hypatia — a Gentile, but it represents science! And who attacked library the beginning of the movie? Christians. And are they themselves not is better than the most recent pagans. That, however, there seems much more cultured and enlightened. But what to do if that happens is based on historical facts?!

No, it is clear that all these pogroms the conscience of the fanatics that enough have any teaching. But much more interesting is the confrontation between Orestes with his entourage. It because a Christian too. And not a negative hero. But he all due respect to my religion can have a different point of view and to defend their views. But the higher figures from the religion does not best its point of view. And what could be easier than to incite Orestes mass?.. Remember: fanatics! In this film, and very very clearly shows how you can manipulate people's opinions. It would seem that the servant of the nothing makes — just read what the written in Scripture. But he it distorts the meaning! Here so masterly it sends the hatred on innocent nor what Hypatia and in order to whom similar games opinion does not worked — for Orestes! And then later, Orestes actually break, forcing you to abandon of their beliefs. Not force — a belief, a play on words. Christianity is shown here as a dogmatic religion that does not accept other than your own opinion. Here Orestes goes through the crowd that wants to shower it with stones, to break. He shouts: "I'm a Christian, same as you." But the crowd is not care. He dissenter — so, must take the General opinion or die. Very unexpected and bold look. Of course, to Express a similar idea, the authors could only historical decorations. What does not prevent them all quite clear for the audience to Express their view.

Orestes same and Davus — ambiguous heroes. Who are better, who worse — unclear. Then one of them doing something nasty, then the other. The opinion and the sympathy of the audience rushes from one to another. And like the main character Hypatia here like the decorations on which shows the characters of heroes. They want to protect Hypatia because you know how dangerous she be what it is. These two — the least suggestible, not considering the main character, the characters in the movie. When they have to obey the circumstances. Alas, here is the law of force.

Hypatia is very headstrong, she is committed to its beliefs. She clever, but not diplomatic. She is not able to adapt. If she — not would have died. But her notions of morality are stronger than any belief. Smart and beautiful, she is the sympathy of the audience, makes you empathize with yourself. When it like a man of another world. She lives only science, only science it and care. All so it seems fine. She is not afraid to defend their beliefs. But still she is well aware that it can happen. And consciously goes to death. Maybe she wanted to show them — his supporters Orest and Davos on what can words?.. On what a herd?..

And all all the event Hypatia and other — no more than means which the authors are trying to convey your opinion on what was happening. And this look is very original. And more interesting than more people will see them thought the end. And in General, among other things, the film is very beautifully shot, so that just admire the picture. So that all: for the beautiful game of actors, picture for an unusual idea — put the highest score.

The movie "Agora" on first glance, simple and supposedly talks about the historical events in the life of a beautiful woman, the scientist-philosopher, mathematician and astronomer Hypatia.

However, digging into the storyline, we can see more important details of which constructed the structure of information.

To begin with, I note that Agora — this is a public place, the area on the market is the center of social life of the ancient Greeks: the political, economic, and etc. here he worked ancient history: violence, cruelty, betrayal, war. In this painting, clearly illustrates how triumphed over violence. peaceful co-existence, how justice loses its meaning and derided by religious groups. As under the guise of Jesus Christ, lucretian sought to power and preached to an imaginary culture. As the confrontation of science and religion, despite that the religion has sought to dictatorship.

Hypatia, a fragile girl, knew that all is built for science. In some moments of the film, despite the natural essence of the fairer sex, it was obvious that the activities of the female scientist stood even above relationships with men. Any open, nor the merit for true followers are not could have saved her soul before the ominous punishment — the dominance of anti-religion, bigotry, the power of which is not has left attention to a neutral position by one person.

Very curious in this whole gospel history was to observe the way, Judas, the slave Davos. In this picture he was the opposite personality of the heroine.

Of all the roles Rachel Weisz, Hypatia is the most natural and believable. Its unique image, I sure, the fuse in the soul of many viewers in including me.

The game the rest of the cast also deserves respect, exactly as the whole directorial work.
